How start-ups are using Executive Assistants

When you’re building a vision, a team, and a product all at once, time is your ultimate currency.

Every day presents the opportunity to break ground, yet also puts you at risk of losing your footing.

For busy start-up teams, the name of the game – today more than ever – productivity.

An increasing number of start-ups are using Executive Assistants as their secret weapon to propel their company towards its goal. But while plenty of attention has been paid to the ways in which EAs can help busy professionals and entrepreneurs, there’s been a lot less discussion of how start-ups can use EAs to drive actual results for their company. Today, we’re going to take a closer look

at how EAs can become virtual team members (Klones), and move the needle for start-ups in real, actionable ways.

Firstly, what is an Executive Assistant?

Klones are problem solvers:

As a start-up, you’re in the business of solving problems for your customers. Klone’s are not much different: they’re in the business of solving problems for their clients, in other words, you and your team. Big problems, little problems: point a Klone at a problem, and they’ll solve it! And if, for some reason, they can’t solve it themselves, they’ll find someone within their team who can.

Klones are task wizards:

Chances are, the things getting in the way of your team’s productivity are all relatively small tasks, individually simple, but together they add up and become overwhelming. Klones are pros at wrangling those kinds of small tasks, freeing you up for the bigger, more longer-term projects that need your full attention.

Klones are utility players:

For start-ups, everyone on the team is doing the work of at least two or three people. Everyone has their core area of responsibility, but then they’re picking up at least four or five tasks outside their main area that simply haven’t found a home yet. That in-between ‘stuff’ (the stuff that doesn’t fit neatly within a full-time team member’s job description!), that tends to be exactly the kind of ‘stuff’ that Klones can take on. A good EA can fill in a wide variety of areas, picking up the slack wherever needed.

Klones have valuable skills:

There’s a misconception out there that people only use virtual assistants for basic tasks, like booking flights and scheduling appointments, because that’s as far as an Executive Assistant’s skill-set stretches. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth! Klones are a highly educated, talented, and extremely motivated workforce. A lot of the time, the skills that they have fall perfectly into areas where you and your team may not be as strong.

Klones are a great way to add some additional, high-quality bandwidth to your team, without breaking the bank. A Klone does more than buy your groceries or manage your calendar: they become a seamless member of your team and help drive your company toward its goals. Klone’s keep you organised, they keep you focused, they keep you sane. But, most importantly, they free up your time and your team’s time so you can work on those truly important projects that are going to make an impact.
